Banyana Banyana delivered an encouraging performance in their first friendly against Algeria at Princess Magogo Stadium, delighting the KwaZulu-Natal crowd despite a slow start.
The Sasol-sponsored side created several early chances but struggled with their finishing in the opening stages. However, they grew into the match and found their rhythm, with Ntabiseng Majiya breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute.

Head coach, Desiree Ellis, reflected on the performance, noting that while the team created numerous opportunities in the first half, they lacked the finishing touch. She added that the Algerian side posed challenges, but key halftime adjustments by the technical team helped shift momentum, crediting the players for their commitment and execution.
The match also marked a significant milestone for Bambanani Mbane, who captained the side on her 100th cap. Mbane expressed gratitude to her teammates and shared that she would embrace the opportunity again if given the chance. She also thanked Sasol for its continued support, from her days in the Sasol League to her journey with the national team.

Nozipho Mbatha, Sasol Senior Manager for Group Brand and Sponsorships, praised the team and saying” “We are incredibly proud of Banyana Banyana’s performance today. She has shown determination over the years, and we are proud to see that her hard work has paid off. At Sasol, we remain committed to supporting her journey as they continue to inspire the nation and truly live the impossible.”
