Sasol League roadshow kicks off in North West

Sasol recently launched the Sasol League roadshow in Potchefstroom, North West, with a series of events designed to empower local coaches and elevate women’s football. The roadshow started with a dynamic coaches’ workshop led by Banyana Banyana head coach Dr. Desiree Ellis. Coaches from the province received invaluable insights and strategies to enhance their teams’ performance.

“These workshops are also about sharing insights concerning Banyana Banyana and the crucial role Sasol League coaches play in preparing players for national team call-ups. The roadshow underscores Sasol’s commitment to the value chain of women’s football in South Africa, ensuring that we are preparing the next generation of Banyana Banyana players,” said Ellis.

She emphasised the importance of the workshops, explaining that they allow her to share valuable information with the coaches and provide insights on how they can support the selection process. “For example, it’s crucial that players arrive at camp well-prepared. Since the coaches work with them continuously while we only have them for a week, their input and dedication are invaluable. The workshops benefit both the coaches and our team, ensuring we all work together towards the same goals,” Ellis added. Following the workshop, the provincial playoffs took place, determining the team that will represent the North West province in the Sasol League National Championships. “We’re incredibly excited to embark on the Sasol League Regional Roadshows. This year, we’re not just celebrating the talent on the field but also investing in the future of the game through our Coaches’ Workshops. By equipping coaches with the skills and knowledge they need, we’re ensuring that the Sasol League continues to grow stronger, fostering the next generation of football stars,” said Dean Somerset, Manager: Group Brand and Sponsorships.

The roadshow will next head to the Free State, where local coaches will receive the same training, followed by their provincial playoffs. It will conclude in the Western Cape, where the team joining the highly anticipated National Championship will be determined to join the other provinces in the. This initiative reflects Sasol’s commitment to nurturing football talent and strengthening the foundation of women’s football across South Africa.
