The second round of the Sasol League provincial roadshows took place in the Free State, bringing together the best football talent from the province. The event started with a highly informative coaches’ workshop, led by the renowned Dr. Desiree Ellis, Banyana Banyana’s head coach. The workshop attended by thirty-plus local Sasol League coaches provided invaluable insights into the player selection process, helping coaches better understand what it takes to build a winning team.
The excitement culminated in a thrilling provincial playoff between Ixias FC and Kovsie FC. After a hard-fought match, Kovsie FC emerged victorious, claiming the title of Free State Sasol League champions. The team now sets its sights on the Sasol League National Championships, where they will face off against the best teams from across the country.
Dr. Desiree Ellis emphasized the significance of these workshops, stating, “The coaches’ workshops are crucial in ensuring that our coaches are well-equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to identify and nurture talent. By sharing insights into the selection process, we aim to elevate the standard of football across all regions, giving every player the opportunity to shine on the national stage.”
Sasol’s Manager, Sponsorship and Brand, Dean Somerset echoed this sentiment, saying, “Empowering provinces through initiatives like the Sasol League roadshow is key to strengthening the foundation of women’s football in South Africa. As we gear up for the Sasol League National Championships, we are proud to support these teams and their journeys to greatness as we are committed to the value chain of women’s football in SA, ensuring we prepare the next generation of players who will represent our country at an international level”.
The roadshow’s third round will take place in the Western Cape, where the provincial champions will be determined, setting the stage for an intense competition at the upcoming Sasol League National Championships.
