The 5th and final day of the Sasol Live the Impossible wheelchair basketball tournament at the Mandeville Sports Centre concluded with thrilling matches and memorable performances. The first game featured an exciting face-off between the Mandeville Falcons and the South African U23 men’s team. The Falcons emerged victorious, thanks to a stellar performance by Justin Williams, named Man of the Match after beating the junior AmawheelaBoys 56-53. The Falcons who are part of the SuperSport wheelchair basketball series showed their pride and determination which rubbed off the South African team, as they put off a hard match.
In the second match, the South African senior men’s team secured their place as tournament champions with a decisive 63-53 win against Team Kuwait. Shane Williams was awarded Man of the Match for his outstanding play, while Smanga Mbele was honoured as Man of the Tournament for his consistent excellence throughout the event.

Next up for the Sasol Amawheelies U23 Men’s national side is the exciting trip to Tripoli Libya, where they will take on Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt U23 sides in a preparation tournament for the 2025 IWBF Africa U23 Championship Qualification in Cairo Egypt. “We do not doubt that the U23 team will continue to excel at the international level and make the rest of South Africa proud”, concluded Somerset.
