Banyana Banyana Shine in Friendly Win Against Botswana

Banyana Banyana delivered a powerful performance as they defeated Botswana in the first match of the three nations challenge, setting the tone early and showcasing their dominance from the first whistle. The Sasol-sponsored South African senior women’s national team wasted no time asserting their authority, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute, thanks to a well-placed strike by Adrielle Mibe.

The pressure mounted quickly as Jermaine Seoposenwe doubled the lead in the 17th minute and struck again in the 36th, putting South Africa firmly in control and displaying their clear intent to make their country proud. Karabo Dhlamini, who provided beautiful passes, earned the Diski Queen of the Match award for her outstanding support to her teammates, which ultimately led to the victory.

Botswana, to their credit, fought back courageously, managing to score just before halftime and again shortly after the break. However, their efforts were not enough to shake the composure and momentum of the Banyana Banyana side, who held strong and closed out the match with confidence and flair taking a 3-2 victory.

As the team prepares to defend its title at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), its performance sends a clear message that it is ready to compete and dominate on the continental stage, proudly flying the South African flag.

Nozipho Mbatha, Senior Manager: Brand and Sponsorships, said, “We are incredibly proud of what Banyana Banyana has achieved so far. Their resilience, skill, and unity continue to inspire the nation. For 16 years, Sasol has stood by this team, helping them live the impossible, and unleashing talent to greatness.”

South Africa now shifts focus to their second friendly fixture, where they will face Zambia on Tuesday, 3 June 2025 at Lucas Moripe Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.
