The Gauteng province will be hosting their annual Gauteng Sports Awards ceremony on Saturday, 18 February. These awards are to pay homage to Gauteng-based sportsmen and sportswomen. Wiseman Dlamini and Michelle Moganedi from the Sasol-sponsored Wheelchair Basketball South Africa (WBSA) and Andile Dlamini, the goalkeeper for the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana have been nominated for this year’s award ceremony.
WBSA received two nominations: Wiseman Dlamini is nominated for Administrator of the Year. Wiseman has been associated with WBSA for the past 10 years, progressing from being a player to being part of the administration team. He achieved numerous accolades while still playing. Wiseman expressed his gratitude for being nominated for the award: “I have been a part of the WBSA family for ten years and have had an incredible experience playing wheelchair basketball and being a part of this family. Sasol and WBSA have given me the opportunity to achieve things I thought would be impossible to achieve. I have traveled the world and met people from all walks of life. I consider this nomination a win already”.
The nomination for Sportswoman of the Year had a profound effect on Michelle Moganedi: “I had never imagined that I would achieve such success playing wheelchair basketball. As a child, I aspired to be a member of the Banyana Banyana football team. Unfortunately, my dreams vanished after my accident, but the universe had other plans for me. I am truly grateful for the exposure that has been given to me by Sasol and WBSA. I can truly say I’m living the impossible”.
Andile Dlamini, the goalkeeper for Banyana Banyana, is nominated for Sports Personality of the Year. “2022 was the epitome of living the impossible, winning the 2022 WAFCON Championship, as well as the Goalkeeper of the Year Award. Being nominated for Sports Personality of the Year is a great honour, and I would like to thank the Gauteng Sports Department for the nomination”.
The Sasol Senior Manager for Group Brand and Sponsorship, Nozipho Mbatha, expressed her delight at athletes from Sasol-sponsored properties being nominated for the Gauteng Sports Awards. “Andile, Michelle and Wiseman have all been nominated in their respective categories; we remain resolute in our unwavering support for these sports properties which give our athletes platforms to showcase their skill as they strive to live the impossible, pushing themselves to excel in their sporting codes. We are truly proud of them”.
