The IWBF Africa Zone U25 Women’s Basketball World Championship Qualifiers kick off in Johannesburg, South Africa

IWBF U25 Women’s World Championship Qualifiers Schedule December 2022

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championship Qualifiers will take place between 5-8 December 2022 at Mandeville, Johannesburg. The countries participating in this qualifier are South Africa, DR Congo, and Ethiopia.

The IWBF U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championship, launched in 2011, is an international wheelchair basketball competition which brings the top under-25 women national teams from the four IWBF Zones – America, Africa, Europe and Asia Oceania together, to compete for the lucrative title.

These qualifiers taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, will enable Africa as a zone to determine the country that will represent it at the IWBF U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball World Championship taking place next year.

Nozipho Mbatha, Sasol Senior Manager: Group Brand and Sponsorship, wished the SA U25 team, participating in the qualifiers the best of luck for the matches ahead. “At Sasol, we want our teams to go into such tournaments and qualifiers knowing we are behind them all the way. We want them to play their hearts out knowing the goal is achievable, for nothing is impossible with determination and hard work”.

These qualifiers coincide with World Disability Day – to commemorate this special day WBSA has organised some activities with the participating teams. On Friday, 2 December, the teams will visit the Netcare Rehabilitation Hospital in Auckland Park, where players will spend time with amputees, and also give them a wheelchair basketball match demo. On Saturday, 3 December, the SA U25 ladies will play against the DRC in a friendly match at Wits University.
