Excitement and Inspiration Fuel Day 1 of the Sasol League National Championship

The first day of the Sasol League National Championship was not only filled with thrilling matches but also featured an inspiring masterclass event aimed at helping young athletes fuel their game and pursue their dreams beyond sports.

The day started with three matches where teams battled it out for maximum points. The opening match saw the Kwa-Zulu Natal based team Ezemvelo FC secure a 2-0 victory over Eastern Cape’s Sophakama, setting the stage for an exciting day. In the second match, university teams faced off as the Free State’s Kovsies FC edged out North West University in a high-energy 3-2 showdown. The day concluded with a nail-biting final game between Limpopo’s Ramatlaohle Ladies and Super Strikers from Mpumalanga that ended in a 2-2 draw, leaving fans eager for the days to come.

Following the matches, the players were treated to a masterclass event featuring speakers like Refiloe Jane, Banyana Banyana captain, who captivated the aspiring players as she shared her journey from playing in the Sasol League to reaching national and international heights. She spoke passionately about her beginnings, her experiences in the league, and how she achieved her dream of playing for South Africa on the world stage.

The event also featured Sasol’s Foundation speaker Londiwe Zulu who addressed the athletes, highlighting some of the valuable bursary opportunities that Sasol offers to support their ambitions on and off the field. The last speaker for the evening, Simphiwe Dludlu, South Africa’s under 17 Women National Team (Bantwana) coach also took the stage, delivering motivational words to uplift and encourage the future stars of the game.
