The South African Senior Women’s team have landed in Mozambique where they will take on the hosts for the first round of the African Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers on Wednesday, 20 October 2021.
Banyana Banyana players and staff members were welcome by the Commissioner General Siphiwe Nyanda who affirmed his support for the team ahead of their AWCON against the hosts Mozambique on Wednesday.
“We are very excited to have the Team in Mozambique and we are here together with members of the South African High Commission in Maputo to wish you well as you take on Mozambique on Wednesday. We are here for you during your stay in Mozambique and we believe in you.” Said Nyanda.
Thembi Kgatlana and Hildah Magaia are the only missing players from Coach Desiree Ellis’s selection and will join the camp on Tuesday, 19 October to complete the squad.
The team had a light training session upon arrival on Monday afternoon and Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis believes if they execute the plan well, they will be ready for Wednesday.
“The light training session went well, everyone is upbeat and looking forward to the match on Wednesday. We have another session tomorrow (Matchday -1) and we will take it from there. We have to make sure we get a good start because the first leg is always vital.” Said Desiree Ellis.
“We played them before at the COSAFA Cup but that game is behind us now, we know their strengths and weaknesses and I am positive they also know more about us,” added Ellis.
“We are looking forward to putting in more training tomorrow and if we execute our plans well, we will be ready for the game on Wednesday.” Concluded Ellis.
