Banyana Banyana emerged victorious at Tuesday’s match when they beat Mozambique 6 – 0, in the second leg AWCON qualifier game, bringing the aggregate to an incredible 13 – 0.

Going into the clash, the South African’s enjoyed a commanding 7-0 score line advantage courtesy of their first leg triumph in Mozambique. The second leg did not disappoint, and the calabash was raining goals with Banyana Banyana hitting the net six times, confirming that the result of their previous encounter was not by chance.

Banyana Banyana Head Coach Desiree Ellis was overjoyed by the results, indicating that the team stuck to the game plan and didn’t relax or allow themselves to be side-tracked by their previous achievements. She mentioned that although there was a point where the team wasted the opportunities they created, they came back, fought hard, producing these incredible results.

Linda Motlhalo and Hildah Magaia secured two goals each and Bambanani Mbane and Sibulele Holweni scored the remaining goals.

Motlhalo who was celebrating her 50th cap was thrilled to have scored a brace. She mentioned that the first half of the match was quite challenging, however, she was grateful that the plan they put in place for the second half yielded great results.

The next AWCON qualifier matches for Banyana Banyana will be as follows:

  • 14 Feb 2022 – South Africa vs Algeria (1st leg)
  • 23 Feb 2022 – Algeria vs South Africa (2nd leg)

The AWCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco in 2022.
