ABOUT THE SASOL LEAGUE

Established in 2009, the Sasol League is South Africa’s semi-professional women’s football league. The purpose of the league is to grow and develop women’s football across all nine provinces.

Sasol, in partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA), played a key role in forming and supporting the league as a platform for female footballers to showcase their skills and to broaden the talent pool for South Africa’s national women’s teams (U/17, U/20 and Banyana Banyana).

The league has historically provided opportunities for thousands of female footballers across the country to participate in regular competitive football at a provincial level.

Through Sasol and SAFA initiatives, opportunities were created for national team coaches to identify emerging talent and for knowledge-sharing to take place with local coaches, contributing to the overall development of the women’s game.

The most recent Sasol-sponsored National Championship took place in 2024, where provincial champions competed for national honours. Ezemvelo Women’s FC were crowned champions.
