The road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games continues this October for Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana as they take on Madagascar in a crucial home-and-away Olympic qualifier.
Both matches will take place at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00. The first, with Madagascar as the home team, will be played on Friday, 9 October 2026, followed by the second leg on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, with South Africa at home.
South Africa’s senior women’s national team is no stranger to the Olympic stage. Sasol Banyana Banyana made history by qualifying for their first Olympic Games in London in 2012, before returning four years later for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Now, a decade after their last Olympic appearance, the team has its sights set on a long-awaited return to the world’s biggest sporting stage at LA28, taking place from 14-30 July 2028 in the United States of America.

“We haven’t been to the Olympic Games since 2016 and that is a long time ago. We need to get back to that big stage,” says Banyana Banyana coach Dr Desiree Ellis.
As they take on this next chapter, Sasol Banyana Banyana continue to embody the spirit and principles of #NtswembuNamanje – showing the resilience, courage and determination to keep pushing forward, no matter the challenge. It is a mindset that has carried the team through defining moments and continues to inspire them as they pursue another place on the global stage.
As a proud long-standing sponsor of Banyana Banyana, Sasol continues to stand behind the team and the values they represent, both on and off the field.

To our Sasol colleagues, let’s continue to stand with Banyana Banyana. Let’s rally behind the team, show our support and remind them that as they pursue their Olympic dream, the Sasol family is behind them every step of the way.
Meanwhile Sasol Banyana Banyana have already arrived in Bloemfontein and held their first training session at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday morning.
